Design Lab: Sewing, Fabric & Mixed Media (Grades 3-7)
8-Week Session Weekly (Aug 10 - Oct 2) - $400
In this class, students explore creativity through hands-on design projects. They learn basic hand stitching, sewing machine skills, and how to combine different materials to create unique mixed media artwork. The class encourages creativity, builds skills, and helps students develop their own artistic style.

WEEK 1,2
Drawing and Stitching Practice
Students will build skills in both drawing and stitching through creative, hands-on projects. They will learn basic sewing machine techniques and experiment with stitching over their own line drawings inspired by Tom Friedman. The class also includes dyeing fabric swatches and exploring mixed media collage.

WEEK 3,4
Collaging and Quilting
A hands-on exploration of quilting, hand stitching, and embellishment, where students create textured, layered works through fabric and collage.

WEEK 5,6
Color Theory
Create with rice paper, leaves, and mixed media while exploring storytelling, texture, and unexpected visual effects. Students will also design and make their own sketchbook.
WEEK 7,8
Mixed media Asian Painting
Explore traditional Asian brush painting with contemporary mixed media techniques. Students develop mindful brush control and an understanding of positive and negative space while building their own artistic voice.
